Streaming Innovation Alliance
Adds Six New Members
Leading Advocacy Group Adds Diverse Streamers Focusing on Government Proceedings and Diverse Entertainment Options
June 26, 2024 (WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The Streaming Innovation Alliance, which launched with an initial slate of 17 members in September 2023 to advocate on state and federal policy issues affecting streaming services and viewers, has expanded its ranks. SIA’s six new members are Demand Africa (by The Africa Channel), FedNet, In The Black Network, Radiant Technologies, SkinsPlex Native America On Line and TVEI Network, with offerings running from live coverage of the US Congress to African and Native American storytelling to bingeworthy classic TV.
“SIA’s new members embody the unique, diverse options and qualities that make streaming so popular,” said Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association, who played a leading role in organizing SIA. “We’re proud to welcome each of them to SIA’s ranks and look forward to working together telling streaming’s story to policymakers and the public across the country.”
SIA brings together large national streamers with independent services that offer films, shows, sports, and news through a range of service models from ad-supported to on-demand to subscription options. The advocacy group is uniquely positioned to speak for the diverse community of streaming consumers and the services they love.
As state and federal governments consider new policies for the streaming era, SIA works to bring its members’ unique perspectives and expertise into the debate. SIA advocates for pro-innovation policies that advance the richness and diversity of streaming while protecting consumers from regressive taxes and fees that undermine options and choice and drive up consumer bills. Former U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) and former FCC Commissioner and Acting Chair Mignon Clyburn (D-SC) serve as Senior Advisors to the Alliance.
SIA also works to educate policymakers on the many differences between human-curated professional streaming services and user-generated-content video platforms and social media services. In March, the group held a widely regarded “Meet the Streamers” event and NCAA basketball watch party in Washington, DC, highlighting growing access to live sports on streaming. Later this summer, the organization plans to follow up with an online event focused on the technology innovations that make modern streaming services work.
